FACE FIT TESTING

SERVICE OVERVIEW

If you wear a mask at work that relies on making a seal with your face, then you need a Face Fit test. A Face Fit test is designed to ensure a person’s mask fits their face contour and size preventing inhalation of harmful hazards. In the UK, respiratory-related diseases and conditions account for the third-largest work-related illness including exposure to chemicals, dust, air borne particles.

There is a lack of understanding to prevent occupational lung disease because the effects are often identified many years after the exposure. The HSE are focussed on reducing respiratory injuries and diseases caused within the workplace.

Employers must ensure they are managing their respiratory hazards and have implemented Face Fit testing for all users of tight fitting respirators. Employers providing Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) must arrange for each wearer to attend and pass Face Fit testing for the types of RPE worn in the workplace.

The following regulations and guidance specify the requirements for Face Fit testing:

  • The Control of Substances Hazardous To Health (COSHH) regulations.
  • HSG 53.
  • Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002.
  • Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
  • Health & Safety Guidance, OC 282/28 Fit testing for respiratory protective equipment face pieces.

Employees most affected are those that come in contact with respiratory and inhalation hazards created through workplace activities.

Face Fit testing must be conducted by competent persons.

Our Fit2Fit qualified Service Technicians have extensive experience in delivering Face Fit Services across the United Kingdom.

Face Fit testing takes place at the customers premises. The Service Technician will provide full guidance and support on how to maximise respiratory protection.
