BREATHING APPARATUS WEARER Training
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course has been created to comply with and meet the requirements of Directive 89/656/EEC – use of personal protective equipment.
The Directive lays down minimum requirements for the use of personal protective equipment used by employees at work, which are necessary when risks cannot be sufficiently controlled by technical and organisational measures.
Employers’ obligations include the provisions to ensure that each wearer receive the necessary information, instruction and training.
This course is designed specifically for the industrial sectors whereby employees who are required to wear breathing apparatus in irrespirable environments including hazards such as chemicals, gases, vapours, biological, viral or particulate risks exist can do so safely.
Breathing apparatus is respiratory protective safety critical equipment and it is essential that wearers are adequately trained to operate it safely and effectively. This course covers the requirements for working safely complying with current industry legislation and best practice.
Course Students completing the course will be able to undertake the required pre use tests, don and doff the equipment, operate the set within the limitations and required procedures.
The training carried out by competent person(s) with suitable and sufficient knowledge along with practical breathing apparatus operations experience.
The course, a blend of theoretical and practical use of breathing apparatus, whereby course Students will have the confidence to wear and undertake tasks within the workplace.
Standard one day course, however can be customer specific fully dependant upon site operations and specified risks.
Target Group
This course is designed for personnel from diverse industry sectors including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, petrochemical oil and gas, tank storage, nuclear, maintenance and water industries.
Who Should Attend
Employees who may be required to wear breathing apparatus for respiratory protection as part of their job role or in cases of emergency.
Course Assessments
Students must pass both theoretical and continual practical assessments to complete the course against specific criteria which can incorporate customer / site specific requirements.
TRAINING COMPONENTS & ELEMENTS
Pre Requisites
Nominated course students should:
- Have completed an occupational medical examination including lung function and physical fitness assessment and deemed medically fit prior to attending the Breathing Apparatus Wearers course.
- Attend training clean shaven as facial hair could prevent a good seal between the wearer’s facial contour and the breathing apparatus face mask seal.
- Be proficient in the English language including reading, writing and numeracy.
- Posses reasonable English language communication skills.
- Be physically able to carry out the practical skills required to meet the assessment criteria.
Certification
All Students that complete the course will receive a certificate of Completion.
