FIRE AWARENESS TRAINING

COURSE OVERVIEW

UK Fire safety legislation including the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 is guidance for those who have a responsibility under the Act for ensuring fire safety within the workplace.

The course is designed to raise awareness of the dangers associated with fire and the practical steps and arrangements that can be taken to minimise and control the risks that fire presents.

All employers have a legal duty to provide all employees with appropriate fire safety training.

Fire safety training is required to be carried out on induction with refresher training scheduled in order to maintain competency which should be suitable and appropriate to the employee’s workplace.

The training carried out by competent person(s) with suitable and sufficient knowledge along with practical fire safety experience. By undertaking Fire Awareness training employees will be prepared in the event of fire, ensuring their own safety and the safety of other persons on the premises.

The course, a blend of theoretical and practical use of fire extinguishers with the use of environmentally approved controlled fires, whereby course Students will have the confidence to tackle small incipient fires within the workplace.

Duration

Standard four hour course, however can be customer specific fully dependant upon site operations and specified risks.

Target Group

This course is designed for personnel from diverse industry sectors including Commerce, industry, manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutical, chemical, petrochemical oil and gas, tank storage, nuclear, retail and construction.

Who Should Attend

All employees who may be confronted by fire in the workplace.

Course Assessments

Students must pass a short assessment to complete the course against specific criteria which can incorporate customer / site specific requirements.

TRAINING COMPONENTS & ELEMENTS

Element 1.
The principles of fire, common causes of workplace fires, and how fires spread through buildings.
Element 2.
Fire prevention and protection, detection and warning, means of escape, extinguishing fires, emergency arrangements and staff training.
Element 3.
Fire classification, types of firefighting equipment.
Element 4.
What to do if you discover a fire, what to do if you hear the alarm.
Element 5.
Specific workplace procedures and arrangements.
Element 6.
Fire Extinguisher operation and application of firefighting media.

Pre Requisites

Nominated Students should be:

  • Proficient in the English language including reading and writing.
  • Posses reasonable English language communication skills.
  • Students must be physically able to carry out the practical skills required to meet the assessment criteria.

Certification

All Students that complete the course will receive a certificate of Completion.
