HAZMAT RESPONSE & DAMAGE CONTROL Level 2 Training

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Hazmat Response and Damage Control Level 2 Course has been created to support high hazard industry Emergency Response requirements in order to effectively respond to and implement environmental and asset damage control techniques reducing the potential for on site incidents affecting off site neighbours and local communities.

The ability for Emergency Response Teams to respond to, effectively assess and implement HAZMAT damage control is a fundamental requirement where chemicals are processed and stored within petrochemical oil and gas facilities.

This unique and specialist course is designed specifically for the industrial sectors whereby employees who are required to work within the demanding environment of Emergency Response wearing a combination of respiratory protective equipment and chemical protective clothing / equipment in hazardous environments can undertake intervention operations based upon credible HAZMAT incidents.

Course Students completing the course will be able to undertake the required intervention skills required to contain chemical releases adopting and implementing damage control techniques along with mitigating the hazards.

The training carried out by competent person(s) with suitable and sufficient knowledge along with practical HAZMAT operations experience.

The course, a blend of theoretical and practical use of equipment including breathing apparatus, chemical protection suits and damage control equipment will allow course Students to respond effectively to HAZMAT situations within the workplace.

Duration

Standard two day course, however can be customer specific fully dependant upon site operations and specified risks.

Target Group

This specialist course is designed for personnel from Emergency Response and maintenance teams commonly found within the chemical, nuclear, storage, processing industries, pharmaceutical, petrochemical oil and gas and tank storage.

Who Should Attend

Employees who may be required to directly respond to and contain a chemical situation as part of their job role or in cases of emergency.

Course Assessments

Students must pass both theoretical and continual practical assessments to complete the course against specific criteria which can incorporate customer / site specific requirements.

Element 1.
Theory of chemical incident response.
Element 2.
Personal Protective Equipment and clothing.
Element 3.
Environmental damage control equipment and techniques.
Element 4.
Environmental atmospheric air testing.
Element 5.
Practical HAZMAT and Damage Control skills.
Element 6.
Decontamination.
Element 7.
After use cleaning, care, maintenance and storage of protective clothing and equipment.
Element 8.
Site specific policies and procedures.

Pre Requisites

Nominated course Students should:

  • Have completed an occupational medical examination including lung function and physical fitness assessment and deemed medically fit prior to attending the HAZMAT Response & Damage Control Level 2 course.
  • Trained and competent Breathing Apparatus Wearer.
  • Attend training clean shaven as facial hair could prevent a good seal between the wearer’s facial contour and the breathing apparatus face mask seal.
  • Trained and competent gas tight suit wearer.
  • Be proficient in the English language including reading, writing and numeracy.
  • Posses reasonable English language communication skills.
  • Students must be physically able to carry out the practical skills required to meet the assessment criteria.

Certification

All Students that complete the course will receive a certificate of Completion.
